Currently, it is not possible for students to obtain a complete record of their VET enrolments and achievements from a single online source. To solve the issue a Unique Student Identifier (USI) has been introduced under The Students Identifier Act 2014. It will enable all training records of an individual to be linked.

The USI will make it easier for students to find, collate and authenticate their VET achievements into a single transcript. It will also ensure that the students’ VET records are not lost. A USI is effectively an account or reference number made up of numbers and letters and it is available online under no cost to the student. Each student will receive only one USI and will have it for life. Starting 1 January 2015, no SOA or qualification will be issued prior to obtaining student’s USI number. When you apply for a USI on behalf of an individual who has authorised you to do so, you will be asked to provide personal information about that individual.

This will include:

  • Name, including first or given name(s), middle name(s) and surname or family name;
  • Date of birth;
  • City or town of birth;
  • Country of birth;
  • Gender;
  • ID details;
  • Contact details.
